Precision Agriculture Advancement for Ontario

Developing a Crop Portal

Project Type

Cloud Service and Precision Agriculture Process Development

Challenge

Farming equipment is powerful, sophisticated and costly, but Ontario grain growers in many cases may not be fully utilizing the potential of this modern equipment, its related computing power and software to validate precision agriculture practices, including variable rate.

Solution

The research team has been and continues to evolve a Crop Portal, which is a cloud service that can be accessed by all project collaborators. The Crop Portal allows yield data to be uploaded, stored, cleaned, gridded and divided into management zones. The 2015 growing season is the first for this project, and the variable rate seeding and nitrogen practices will be collected and evaluated using the Crop Portal.
