Competitive Analysis for a New Product
Colossus, a company that produces authentic Greek dishes for customers around the world, wanted to develop a Canadian-made version of a traditional Mediterranean spoon sweet, which is a whole fruit preserve. Currently they are imported from Greece and Turkey, increasing the cost. Colossus needed to better understand the competitive landscape for these products.
The team identified key competitors domestically and internationally, analyzing each to better understand product, place, price and promotion, as well as strengths and weaknesses. Retail outlets in southern Ontario were visited to conduct a shelf-space analysis to learn about how competitors appear on the shelf and how they can differentiate their product in a niche market. It also identified which flavours and products are currently being imported to southern Ontario.
