Durham Foods

Implementing a new food safety certification program

Project Type

Food and Beverage Regulatory Assistance

Durham Foods uses state-of-the-art equipment to grow hydroponic spinach, and wherever possible, is always looking to improve its greenhouse business, including keeping up with all necessary health and safety measures.

Durham Foods joined forces with Niagara College to create and implement food safety processes that qualify for certification under CanadaGAP: the Canadian Horticultural Council’s (CHC) On-Food Safety (OFFS) Program. Gaps in operations were identified and solutions explored. Standard operating procedures, training manuals, implementation protocols, and evaluation criteria were created to ensure a robust set of food safety processes and sustained certification.
