Improving efficiency for emissions tracking
The accepted method of calculating greenhouse gas emissions from the consumption of grid-purchased electricity is limited to one emission factor that represents an annual average. However, the emission intensities of large-scale electrical grids change by the hour, therefore requiring hourly precision in emission calculations to optimize accuracy.
In collaboration with e3 Solutions Inc., Niagara Research identified a method of calculating and effectively applying hourly emission factors to help businesses track emissions more accurately and identify reduction opportunities. The team created a calculation engine that makes emission calculations quick and painless.
