Hazelnut Trees in Ontario
Challenge
Hazelnuts have been produced in Ontario to date with limited success, primarily because the varieties need to survive filbert blight, and need to be cold hardy.
Solution
This area of research is focused on exploring the potential to introduce the agriculture of hazelnut trees in southern Ontario, through feasibility studies of tree growth, with the partners. The PrAgMatic system is being utilized to collect data regarding growing conditions. Tree growth as well as data collected through PrAgMatic will be examined to determine growth success and ideal growing conditions.
