Mechanical Engineering Design and Improvement
Based out of Niagara-on-the-Lake, the new owners of Electric Tractor Corp. wanted to develop a new electric utility vehicle, the Electric OX2. The vehicle needed to have advanced electronics, and mechanical and aesthetic improvements from a previous version; however, the company did not have the technical capabilities to create engineering drawings of the new model.
The research team reverse engineered the previous model, completed an artist’s 3D rendition of the new model’s design and completely redesigned the frame; resized the steering system, designed new mounting hardware and moved all batteries to the rear. The batteries and the motors required all new mounting brackets and plates to provide adequate rigidity. All of the above design requirements have been completed in the model and engineered drawings approved by the industry partner.
