CHALLENGE:
Meals by you originally started as a recipe spice kit, creating kits with all the spiced for a home cook to make a gourmet meal. In the difficulties in their own life and needing a protein substitute for a difficult eater in the household, Eugenia started to develop a dissolvable protein beverage to be mixed with water. This product will be known as Pocket Boosters. The current products on the market often taste bad or require a large tub of protein powder. Meals by You is working with Bi Food Tech PEI on products development. They will also be the initial co-packer into commercialization. The finalized product will be a portable, single-serve, water soluble, plant-based protein drink for the marketplace. Believing a gap exists that meets these needs, a better understanding of the market-place is desired and who the target market(s) are.
SOLUTION:
Research to better understand drivers in functional food, health food and the protein market in both children and adults was completed. A competitive analysis on protein products in the market place; focusing on clear isolates and protein products developed for children. This information lead the development of target market(s) and provided direction for the pocket boosters to take during the product development phase.
