Shock Function for Early Warning of Extreme Temperature Drops
CHALLENGE
The PrAgMatic data collection system is the basis on which the shock function has been developed. By examining data collected utilizing PrAgMatic sensor clusters, variability characteristics of the clustered sensors showed a distinct character during extreme temperature drops. The shock function is an effort to first classify and then develop an early-warning system for extreme temperature drops. One of these events on March 27, 2012 was responsible for severely damaging the Ontario tender fruit crop, showing that early warning for these events is critical.
SOLUTION
This research will underlie technology development for an early-warning system for farmers to utilize and act accordingly, by examining the data collected utilizing the PrAgMatic sensors.
