The Research & Innovation division has announced its fundraiser “Awesome Sauce 50/50 Draw” in support of Niagara College’s workplace United Way campaign. By participating you are helping to make a difference, improving the lives of children, youth, seniors and many more in the community through United Way Niagara.

One in three Niagara residents use a service or program that is funded by the United Way, thanks to the donations of many.

According to United Way Niagara, as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting limitation on essential services, the severity of food insecurity has increased in the Niagara region. It has made it more difficult for people to access sources of food assistance due to the need for limited contact and increased limitation on transportation options. Food donations have also decreased as people have less disposable income to share.

United Way works to tackle some of the biggest social issues in Niagara. Issues like food security and poverty are easy to ignore when you can’t see them, and the goal of the United Way is to make them #UNIGNORABLE.

The R&I division has a long involvement in raising funds for the Niagara-based charity. For five years, the research team held a trivia night that pitted college-wide departments in a friendly competition, all vying for the coveted WTF (World Trivia Federation) belt. Changing things up last year, the research team held its first ever ‘Awesome Prizes Bingo’ event and raised $2,050 towards NC’s United Way Niagara campaign.

Early bird prizes for the Awesome Sauce 50/50 fundraiser will be drawn on Nov. 27 and Dec. 4, with the grand prize drawn on Dec. 11. Get your tickets early!
