Congratulations to the NC team, including Research & Innovation students Santiago Ampudia and Gian Raina Arnas, who won five medals and the top title at the recent 2023 U.S. Open College Beer Championship.
Every beer that the College’s Teaching Brewery entered in this year’s competition achieved a medal, including two golds, two silvers, and a bronze.
Two students from the College’s two-year Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management diploma program were behind two of the five medals.
In other positive news, the Food & Beverage Innovation Centre’s Beverage Pilot Plant has achieved the exacting standard of being Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certified.
FBIC can now help industry partners to be market-ready by focusing on getting the food safety and quality parameters right at the initial stages of development, so they can prove their concept in the market, and be confident in the next steps of scaling to commercial co-packing/manufacturing. FBIC de-risks the product launch process and plugs in where you need support most by helping to:
• develop, optimize, and provide initial scale-up of new (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) beverage products
• provide GMP food safe small-batch processing from 50 L to 1,000 L
• de-risk process and formula optimization through pilot trials and scale-up feasibility studies
• conduct food safety risk assessments, shelf-life studies, beverage formulation, mixing, carbonating, bottling/canning, and pasteurization
• ensure peace of mind by being HACCP Certified, CFIA licensed under Safe Food for Canadians Act and Approved for Inter-provincial Trade, and AGCO compliant
• provide fee-for-service rates and funding options that can offset applied research project costs (subject to eligibility criteria)
