Upcoming Motorama Show features Niagara College connection

The Research & Innovation division of Niagara College will be in some speedy company soon, as part of a special display at the upcoming Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo.

Canadian fans will have a chance to see the Jeff Gordon Martinsville car he drove to victory in the 2015 Chase ‘final four,’ thanks to the Canadian Motor Speedway, a Niagara College partner working with both the Research & Innovation division, and the Motive Power division at Niagara College.

One of the highlights of four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon’s final NASCAR Sprint Cup season last year was his milestone 93rd career series win at Martinsville, Va., to advance to the final four in The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

To commemorate that win and Gordon’s 23rd and final full-time season of competition, Canadian Motor Speedway (CMS) will present Gordon’s 2015 # 24 AARP Member Advantages Chevy SS that he raced to victory that day as the centrepiece of the CMS display at the 2016 edition of Motorama.

Motorama will be held at Toronto’s International Centre March 11 to 13. This year marks a rare and special occasion where one of Gordon’s actual race-winning cars will be on display in Canada.

Continuing a very popular tradition, fans will also be able to meet and speak with John Bickford Sr. Bickford is the stepfather and the man behind the illustrious career of Gordon, the designer of Canadian Motor Speedway.

This year, Niagara College’s Motive Power Program, and The Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre will be exhibiting their technology together with CMS, showcasing their Hybrid Trainer and a 3D printed model of Canadian Motor Speedway. Fans will be able to see CMS’s motorsports stadium take shape in 3D form with preliminary specifications from the architects, IBI Group.

Motorama attendees can take their photo with the #24 race car in CMS’s ‘Victory Lane’ and also connect with CMS owners and the management team for the latest progress updates and construction plans for the signature speedway designed by Gordon.
