(L to R): Marc Nantel opens the Niagara Health Knowledge Institute Research Day; Christine Wilkinson delivers a presentation on her work with HAWIC.

Research and Innovation’s newest Innovation Centre had a front-row seat, and an on-stage place, for the recent Niagara Health Knowledge Institute Research Day, hosted by Niagara College on May 1.

Research lead Christine Wilkinson, with the Healthy Aging and Wellness Innovation Centre (HAWIC), was an invited speaker during the fifth edition of the day-long event. Healthcare researchers from Niagara, Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area, including students, shared their experiences through networking, poster presentations, workshops, and oral presentations, at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Wilkinson delivered an update on a recent Research Opportunity Fund project, which involves recreational therapy professionals using robotic animals in nursing home settings, particularly for residents with dementia.
