Andrea Horwath, leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party (NDP), visited Niagara College’s Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus on Oct. 18 to discuss the role of colleges, tour some of the facilities and learn about several current Niagara Research projects.
After meeting with a group of college representatives, including president Dan Patterson and vice-president academic Steve Hudson, Horwath toured the campus, including stops in the greenhouse, where she learned about the Niagara Research aquaponics research project; the Niagara College Teaching Brewery; the culinary labs and the Canadian Food and Wine Institute Research Centre, where she took part in a sensory evaluation.
Niagara Research staff and researchers spent time discussing the college’s ability to attract students to its programs because of the learning enterprises and ability for the students to work hands-on with applied research projects.
Horwath also took time to meet with NC’s Culinary Olympic team who are competing to represent Canada at the upcoming Culinary Olympics.
