CHALLENGE
Jannatec Technologies wanted to develop a complex wearable electronic system to support workers in the ultra-deep mining industry through means of a garment-fixed connector and modular enclosure system with a mating connector that would be integrated into a variety of garments.
SOLUTION
The research assistants worked closely with Kelson Lachance from Custom Plastics International Ltd. (CPI Ltd.) to take their designs, and make them suitable for injection moulding using CPI’s equipment and practices. The research team was able to provide Jannatec with designs for three new enclosures that would house a variety of internal electronics to cover a range of communication and safety solutions, as well as a standard patch design that would be sewn onto a garment and allow for any of the enclosures to attach to it.
