Safari Niagara captures market expertise

CHALLENGE

The family-owned and operated Safari Niagara offers a one-on-one connection with nature. The Stevensville wildlife park has enjoyed continued growth since opening in 2002. The owners wanted to study the viability of offering a unique wild nature experience while celebrating various occasions, such as seasonal events, weddings, corporate events/meetings and special event/conference hosting. They engaged with the Business & Commercialization team for expertise on how to diversify its operations portfolio.

SOLUTION

The research team at the Research & Innovation division conducted both primary and secondary research to identify current attitudes of Canadian society towards various animal attractions. In addition, the team researched the tourism and hospitality industry of the Niagara region with a specific focus on the conference/event centre industry. The team has also analyzed and outlined best practices of Safari Niagara’s current and potential future competitors. Moreover, a thorough analysis of the wedding industry and the current wedding trends was performed. Finally, based on the findings from the research, the team built a revenue model for Safari Niagara, which calculated various metrics.

Funding: Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) through its College Voucher for Technology Adoption (CVTA) program.
