Research & Innovation (R&I) and the staff at the Greenhouse Technology Network (GTN) are pleased to welcome Cassandra Cosby to the team as the new Network Project Assistant.
GTN is a Niagara College-led consortium of academic research institutions supporting the research needs of greenhouse and related technology businesses through applied projects. Cassie supports two network teams, concentrating most of her time on the reporting and administrative responsibilities of GTN. She also supports the Southern Ontario Network for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation (SONAMI) during reporting periods and at times, helps with onboarding of new network members.
Cassandra is a Niagara resident and a double graduate from Niagara College (NC), completing her diplomas in Aesthetician, as well as Office Administration. Cassandra has worked in the customer service and office administration industries for more than 10 years.
“I have always loved the energy and community spirit of NC as a student. One of my favourite things about NC is how cutting edge they are in everything they do. I also adore the way they treat and honour their students and I knew that would carry over to their employees as well,” said Cassandra.
Most recently, she was the Front Desk Receptionist with Krown Rust Control and has also worked with Canadian Tire Financial Services providing high-quality customer experiences and accurate financial records for clients.
So far, Cassandra says her experience has been amazing starting with the Research & Innovation division. “I really enjoyed my first day where I got to meet everyone and really learn about all the different projects that are currently being developed. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, and I feel as if it is a very supportive environment with a great team of people. I am excited to grow in this position and to learn as much as I can,” said Cassandra.
She’s looking forward to working in the technology and greenhouse space, an industry that is new to her. She will be working very closely with Rita Sterne, Project Manager for GTN to help move the greenhouse industry forward.
“I am most looking forward to the connections I will make in this role. I am excited about the things I will learn, and I think the possibilities of growth and potential are endless. I am very excited to begin this journey and couldn’t be more thrilled to be apart of Research and innovation as well as a NC Employee,” she said.
In her personal life, she’s a mom of two who loves to spend time with family and friends. “I am in the process of starting my online Herbalist degree through Dominion College in British Columbia that I am utterly excited about. I have a passion for wellness and natural products. I love to read, hike and travel. I am the biggest beach bum and anytime of year you can find me enjoying one of the many beaches this region has to offer, especially the ones in my backyard in hometown Fort Erie,” said Cassandra.
