Emmanuel Jal, a former child soldier from Southern Sudan, is now a recording artist, actor, activist and philanthropist who has launched a new superfood – Jal Gua. He noticed the growing demand for healthy foods and turned to his African homeland to combine sorghum and moringa into Jal Gua, a nutritional beverage mix high in minerals, vitamins, protein and carbohydrates. Emmanuel lacked the commercialization and regulatory expertise needed for this venture and turned to Niagara College.
The business team assisted Jal Gua Inc. by providing target market identification and marketing strategies. The food science team helped by researching co-packers and suppliers, advising on label claims, sourcing ingredients and creating Nutrition Facts Tables. Shelf-life testing is now underway and Jal Gua is available in many retail outlets across Ontario, including The Big Carrot, Essence of Life Organics, Foodland, Healthy Foods & More, Nature’s Emporium, Sobey’s, Whole Foods and more.
