Two exciting staff announcements for the growing R&I division

A familiar face at the Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (WAMIC) has secured a new position on the team.

Brian Klassen is now WAMIC’s Research Laboratory Technologist.

Brian has worked with the Research & Innovation (R&I) division in progressively more senior roles since joining the R&I team in 2018, from Research Assistant, to Associate, to Technician, to Research & Development Technologist, and now most recently in the full-time role as Research Laboratory Technologist.

In his role, he supports all research and technical service activities related to producing and testing prototypes, evaluating new technologies and developing new or improved products or processes for small- and medium-sized businesses. Brian is a graduate of Niagara College’s Electronics Engineering Technology (Co-op) program and has worked in the research labs at both WAMIC and the Horticultural & Environmental Sciences Innovation Centre (when it as the Agriculture & Environmental Technologies Innovation Centre). He is also a partial-load professor teaching electronic fabrication skills.

In addition, the Research & Innovation team welcomed a new member to the crew. Congratulations to Amanda MacDonald, the new Proposal Writer for the division.

Amanda’s key responsibilities include supporting the development team in proposal writing, identifying external funding, and fostering relationships with external funding stakeholders.

Prior to this role, Amanda held the title of executive director or director at various prominent municipal and not-for-profit organizations. An alumnus of Durham College, Canadore College, and Brock University, Amanda also has a Master of Management from Trent University. She is affiliated with the Human Resources Professionals Association and is working towards completing her Diploma in Human Resource Management at McMaster University to attain her Certified Human Resources Executive designation.

She is excited to be a part of such a forward-thinking post-secondary institution and looks forward to contributing to the division’s expansion.

Congratulations to both Brian and Amanda!
